OL DOINYO LENGAI - THE SACRED HILL

Ol Doinyo Lengai is Tanzania's only active volcano and also known as a Sacred Mountain of the Maasai. With a height of 2,788 m Ol Doinyo Lengai is a hill compared to Kilimanjaro. Nevertheless, the climb is quite something as it takes place in one stage at an altitude of about 800m.

Itinerary:

Day 1: Arrive at the Campsite/Lodge around 12 noon. Have lunch and rest/sleep.

 

Day 2: At 12 Midnight begin ascent up Ol Doinyo Lengai. Summit at 6 AM and enjoy the view of Mt. Kilimanjaro as the sunrises behind it. Descend down the mountain in time for lunch at the campsite/lodge.

 

Day 3: Wake up early morning and enjoy a nice walking safari at Lake Natron, to see various birds and animals such as large flocks of flamingos, hyenas, zebras, buffaloes and also giraffes.

 

Day 4: Drive back or Go for Safari at Ngorongoro Crater/Tarangire National Park/Lake Manyara National Park.
